Optimist Intermediate (8 – 15yrs) and 420 Intermediate (not available Spring semester) (8th grade to 18yrs):
These classes are for sailors who have completed a Beginners (Learn to Sail) program and who want to work on improving their sailing skills. They will use the Optimist or HS420 to build their skills and knowledge and may then advance to the Opti Race or 420 Race class. These classes are ongoing and sailors will learn boat handling, boat trim, boat care and some basic racing concepts. These classes are also suitable for sailors who don’t want to race – but just want to be better sailors and have fun learning how to do it.
Optimist and Skiff Race (8 – 15yrs) and 420 Race (8th grade to 18yrs):
These classes are for sailors who have completed the Intermediate program and their coach believes they are ready to advance to the Race classes. Sailors will learn advanced boat handling, boat trim, race tactics and rules and be invited to participate in local and travel regattas. These classes are ongoing and sailors, depending on age and ability, may learn to sail in Optis, OPen Skiffs, Lasers and HS420s. High School aged sailors who show the appropriate ability and attitude, may be invited to move on to the 420 SAISA team.
Laser (+13yrs):
This class is for sailors who have completed a Beginners (Learn to sail) program and who want to work on improving their sailing skills in a single handed boat. They will use the Laser to build their skills and knowledge and may then choose to participate in a 420 Race class or race the Laser. This class is ongoing and sailors will learn boat handling,boat trim, boat care and some basic racing concepts.
420 SAISA (8th grade to 18yrs):
This class is for invited sailors who show the appropriate ability and attitude and are ready to participate in team travel regatta’s on the Florida High School (SAISA) circuit. Sailors will learn advanced HS420 boat handling, boat trim, race tactics and rules and travel to approx. 6 SAISA events during the season.
Schedule:
Intermediate classes are available on Sat (Opti… 9 – 11:30am).
Race classes are Sat (Opti… 11 – 1:30pm, Skiff 1:30 – 4:00pm, 420… 2 – 5:00pm)
Laser classes are Sat (10:30 – 1:00pm)
420 SAISA classes are Sat (2 – 5:00pm)
Club boats use included – you provide life jacket, clothes etc.
