Next class starts Saturday Mar. 6th from 11:30 – 2pm (full – wait list). The course runs for 8 consecutive weeks (weather and events permitting).
This experience will enable your sailor to learn the basic skills of sailing which they can then continue to improve with us or they can put it in their memory bank to be used again sometime in the future. During the 8 weeks we’ll learn to sail on a “reach” and to “tack” (turn) and progress to sailing “upwind” and “downwind” and “gybing”. We will also learn to right the boat after a capsize, lots of sailing terminology, and how to tie knots.
If you decide to continue your sailing experience with us, the first month of regular classes are free after graduation from the beginner class! Just become a LEYSF member ($75) and join us on the water!
Students learn in a class environment and then put their skills into practice on the water. LEYSF provides boats and great instructors, you just need to:
- be aged 14 – 18 (younger kids here), and able to swim,
- bring a life jacket,
- water shoes that keep your toes covered (no flip-flops),
- water bottle,
- quick-dry shorts and shirt,
- Helmets are suggested for beginner class. Bicycle and skateboard helmets are great. There are sailing helmets available too.
Covid Safety – We stay outside and we keep our face-coverings on while ashore, on a boat with another sailor, or if the coach is assisting. Single-handed sailors may lower their masks/buffs while sailing. We follow current CDC and Lake County guidelines.
